Wild Burro (Equus asinas)
The wild burro, believed to have originated in Africa, was domesticated and introduced into the desert southwest by Spanish colonizers around 1600 A.D.
These capable, opportunistic foragers did not likely exist in the wild until the nineteenth century. They often cover a large territory, but rarely stray further than ~10 miles from water.
Female burros (jennies) have a ~12 month gestation period, and may produce offspring for 30 years or more. These three burros were as intrigued by us as we were of them!
What should you do if you encounter a territorial burro, or pack of burros as the case may be?
Call in the Royal British Navy of course!
