Matsumoto Castle is one of Japan's premier historic castles. It was built in the late 16th century.
It was Marine Day (a national holiday in Japan) so there were lots of people touring the castle.
There are several weapon and armor displays in the castle.
Most of the floors are spartan, but the floor on which nobles lived is more finished.
Although parts of the park are crowded
with a little walking you can get away from the crowds
There has been volcanic activity within the last few thousand years.
Back in Matsumoto I came across this display in a department store.
(Family members will understand why I've included it.)
Apparently Margaret Howell is a British fashion designer popular in Japan.
I then boarded the train to Kyoto. This was taken a little south of Matsumoto
