We camped for two days in the Devil's Elbow wash to explore the Devil's Elbow and Chemehuevi faults. The Devil's Elbow fault is the older and structurally shallower fault, which is in turn cut by the Chemehuevi Detachment.
The Devil's Elbow fault separates red Tertiary megabreccia in the hanging wall from strongly deformed Proterozoic gneiss in the footwall. In the foreground on the right is another footwall block.
