Day 3: Fully, Valais to Saas im Prattigau, Graubunden

Stop 1: Nufenenpass. The region represents the tectonized Mesozoic cover succession of the southern Gotthard massif. The Mesozoic sediments have been folded and thrusted in a series of ‘schuppen’ so that now several repetitions of the succession lie against one another. In addition, the sediments have undergone amphibolite facies metamorphism, with growth of hornblende-garbenschiefer, garnet, staurolite, feldspar and zoisite across schistosity planes.
