SEDIMENTATION IN THE BAY OF FUNDY

I shot this movie myself while assisting George deVries Klein in an NSF Sponsored field course that he ran in the Five Islands area, Nova Scotia, in 1968. The movie begins with some general views of the area, which has one of the highest ranges in the world. The rest of the movie is devoted to documenting the surface features of the bars and tidal flats, and the internal structure of some bars with large bedforms, as seen in trenches dug by participants in the course. Note a young George Klein is cutting the trench wall.

The results of Klein's earlier studies were documented in his paper:

Klein, G. deV., 1970, Depositional and dispersal dynamics of intertidal sand bars. Journal of Sedimentary Petrology, v.40, p.1095-1127.
